Sunday, June 27, 2010

NOTE: NO PLEDGES REQUIRED

RIVEREDGE NATURE CENTER is nestled in glacier-formed hills along the banks of the Milwaukee River in central Ozaukee County. Riveredge, a 370-acre natural sanctuary, provides hands-on environmental education and outdoor opportunities for thousands of school children, adults and families each year. Education is our mission, along with land preservation and scientific research. Start your route in the heart of Newburg. Ride quiet country roads past fieldstone farmhouses and green fields, along shady riverbanks, through significant natural and historical areas in Ozaukee and Washington counties. Conclude your ride at Riveredge with food and festivities.

SEVEN GREAT ROUTES

8 MILES - Just two little hills, but big biking pleasure. Wetlands, riverbanks, valley views, cows and corn - it's all here! Stop for snacks and enjoy the beauty of the river and countryside.

17 MILES - Ride through gentle, rolling terrain, down a rustic road, past horse paddocks and ponds, by woods and wetlands. Take a short detour past the Cedarburg Bog, visit one of the county's oldest churches and pay respects at an old Irish cemetery.

27 MILES - Add gentle rolling hills, wonderful views of Milwaukee River valleys and a meandering ride along the banks of Cedar Creek past Wisconsin's last covered bridge.

42 MILES - Enjoy many of the scenic sights of the 56 & 70 mile routes in only 42 miles.

56 MILES - Extend your ride through hill and dale past Sandy Knoll County Park with a rest stop on the Milwaukee River. Enjoy a few long downhills and explore history in Waubeka.

70 MILES - Add a 14 mile loop to the 56 mile route north from Waubeka to see grand vistas of drumlins and farms. Visit the historic Stoney Hill School and rejoin the 56-mile route to follow the Milwaukee River back to Riveredge Nature Center.

100 MILES - Add 30 miles to the 70 mile route and ride to the shores of Lake Michigan, stop at Harrington Beach State Park and rejoin the 70 mile route at Stoney Hill School.
